Blindness in the PhilippinesProjects and ProgramsWays You Can Help

Beginning in July of 1998, we began broadcasting a weekly radio show produced exclusively for the blind listener. Blind guests are invited to share their life stories and experiences with their fellow blind. Experts on various topics of concern to the blind are also asked to present their views.

The show, hosted by Jona Lucas, is broadcast on DZAS 702 am, the fourth largest AM radio station in the country, and the largest Christian radio station. It reaches into all parts of Central Luzon and parts of the Visayas, and is a good tool to help us in locating blind persons that might be in need of our services.

One of our listeners from Tarlac writes, "Every Saturday afternoon I listen to the testimonies of those who are also blind like me, and I am reminded that I should not be depressed or sad. I found out from you that you are giving out Bibles in cassette. I immediately had my niece write this letter so I could ask for this Bible in Tagalog. Your listener, Rhea."

As part of our radio outreach, we distribute, free of charge, the Go Ye radio. This is a small, fix-tuned, battery operated radio, with a built in solar powered battery charger. We have been able to distribute thousands of these radios to our blind friends all over the northern Philippines.
