One of the more pressing problems encountered by those who are blind is that of finding suitable employment or other
means of support. In awareness of this difficulty, one of our staff, Marlo Lucas, is assigned full time to help develop
livelihood projects for rural blind adults. Small capital loans are made to help set up businesses, often in the home of
the blind person. Successful projects have included sari sari stores, tilapa (fish smoking), hog raising, and rice buying.
In our view, the self-respect and confidence that these projects build in the blind person's life are as important as
the income earned.
